The Wyoming Market
Where Data Centers Bring Their Own Power.
Microsoft has operated data centers in Cheyenne since 2012 and in April 2026 announced its intent to buy about 3,200 more acres there — the start of a multiyear development process.
South of the city, Project Jade in Laramie County is planned at 1.8 GW, with Tallgrass building the Cheyenne Power Hub to supply around 2.7 GW of on-site gas generation. The project has continued after its original data center partner, Crusoe, stepped back in 2026.
Wyoming's small population is the real constraint. Projects need people who understand on-site generation, gas supply and carbon capture as well as data center delivery, and most of them will be hired from outside the state. Strong relocation stories and clear long-term roles matter.
